道を譲っていないことを、ほかのドライバーに示す必要があります。
カナとヘンリーは、生産拠点について州政府機関と交渉に臨むため、インドのチェンナイにやってきました。
👨So, we’re entering downtown ! You know, Kana, it was so scary to drive the narrow roads in Tokyo, but this is a different game.
さて、市街地に入ってきましたね！カナさん、東京の狭い道を走るのはとても怖かったけど、ここは状況がまったくちがいますね。
👨Everything’s so sudden and random ! The lanes mean nothing here.
この唐突さと秩序のなさといったら！ここでは車線は何の意味も持たないですね。4
👩Well, it’s time to show me your driving skills ! If this car survives a week without a scratch or a bump, I’ll give you a medal.
じゃあ、そろそろヘンリーさんの運転の腕前を見せてくださいよ！この車が１週間、傷ひとつつけず、ぶつけることなく走れたら、メダルをあげますよ。
👨Ahh, a medal of honor the world will respect ! Oh my god, we’re being tailgated… Kana, do I go right or left ?
ああ、世界から尊敬される勲章ですね！おっと、後ろの車がピッタリついてきますね・・カナさん、右と左どっちに行ったらいい？
👩Calm down, Henry ! There’s no bad intent — this is just the way everyone drives here.

インド人の友人が、道を譲っていないことを、ほかのドライバーに示す必要があると言っていましたよ。
👨I see. I guess that’s their way of avoiding an accident.

彼らの言うことは割り引いて聞いたほうがいいです。
カナとヘンリーはホテルで朝食を取りながら、州の投資促進庁とのミーティングの打ち合わせをしています。
👨All curry… ? Starting at breakfast ?
カレーばかり・・・？朝食から？
👩There’s more to it than meets the eye. Each curry is different — it only looks the same because you call it “curry.”
同じように見えても、いろいろあるんですよ。カレーはそれぞれ違うんです。「カレー」と呼んでいるから、同じに見えるだけです。
👨I guess… it tastes good, though ! So, about today’s meeting. The government websites don’t offer a lot of information when it comes to details about incentives.
そうですね・・美味しいですけどね！さて、今日のミーティングについてです。優遇措置の詳細となると、政府のウェブサイトではあまり情報が得られませんね。
👨Our local consultants tell us that the ruling party is concerned about unemployment among young workers.
現地のコンサルタントによると、与党は若年労働者の失業を懸念しているそうです。
👩Yes, they’ll look to try and get us to create as large a facility as possible. We should take their word with a pinch of salt.
そう、できるだけ大きな工場を私たちに作らせようと考えているのでしょう。彼らの言うことは割り引いて聞いたほうがいいですね。
👨What’s the maximum number of jobs we can create ?
うちでは最大何人の雇用を創出できますか？
👩Well, we’re buying and modifying an existing facility. The former owners employed 4,000 there. I’d say we can do 5,000, maybe ?
既存の工場を買って改造するんですよね。前のオーナーはそこで4,000人を雇用していたから、5,000人くらい雇用できるでしょうか？
👨Let’s say 4,500. Any more, and we’d ask for more incentives.
