👩At first, I had mixed feelings about the merger, since Iroha’s history goes a long way back.
当初は、合併には複雑な思いがありました。いろはには長い歴史がありますからね。
👩But the same goes for Romano Motors, right ? We can both uphold our traditions while looking to the future.

👨Yeah, 120 years for you guys is no joke. But as you say, it’s the same for us here at Romano.

👩So, Henry, how long have you been working for Romano ?

👨Oh, that’s a question that makes me feel old. I entered the company straight out of college in ’97.
おっと、何だか老けた気分になる質問ですね。大卒と同時でしたから、97年入社です。
👩 ’97 ? I was still in junior high school then. What was it like ?
97年ですか？私なんてそのころはまだ中学生でした・・そのころってどんな感じだったんですか？
👨Well, I mean, we were lagging behind German cars in the 80s. When I joined Romano, the Japanese were everywhere.
うーん、まあ80年代は、アメリカの自動車産業はドイツに後れを取っていたんですよ。私がロマーノに入社したころは、日本勢がまあ強くて強くて。
👨It was tough for US carmakers — a lot of American suppliers went out of business, and we really had to globalize to stay alive. How did you get into the industry ?
アメリカの自動車メーカーには厳しい時代で、下請けの部品供給会社もたくさんつぶれましたし、生き残っていくためにはグローバルな視点が必要でした。カナさんはどういったきっかけで自動車業界に？
👩I joined Iroha after graduating from college in 2007, so Japan had somewhat recovered from the big recession in the 90s.
いろは自動車に入社したのが大卒時の2007年でしたから、日本が90年代のバブル崩壊からは多少立ち直っていたころでしょうか。
👨Well, I guess we all have our ups and downs. And now, the electric revolution is about to swallow us whole !
