👩Sure. I’ll show you the scenic route.
了解です。景色のいい道を案内しますね。
👨Sounds great ! How far is it to the hotel ?
いいですね！ホテルまではどのくらいですか？
👩It’ll be about 90 minutes. Have you had enough sleep ?
だいたい90分くらいですね。睡眠はバッチリですか？
👨Yeah, don’t worry, Kana ! I’m feeling sharp.
ええ、心配無用ですよ、カナさん！頭はさえていますから。
👩OK. Let’s take this route.
よかったです。では、このルートで行きましょう。
👨Wow, the roads are so well maintained ! What are these cars with yellow plates ?
へぇーっ、道路がよく整備されていますね！この黄色いナンバーの車は何ですか？
👩Highways charge tolls — which is used to maintain the roads surface.
高速道路は通行料がかかりますが、それは路面の維持に使われているんです。
👩As for the yellow plates, we call them “Kei” cars. Japan has a tax break for cars under 660 cc.
黄色いナンバーの車は”軽”自動車と呼んでいます。日本では660cc以下の車は税金が安くなるんですよ。
👨Wow, they’re so small ! But I can see how they’d fare well in the narrow roads here.
うわーっ、とても小さいですねぇ！でも、日本の狭い道路を走るのに適しているのが分かりますね。

🔑Hardly anybody would put a symbol of their college on their car.
自分の大学の紋章を車に貼っている人はほとんどいません。
👩So, let’s get off over here. We can pop by a shrine and I’ll get you a lucky charm for road safety.
では、こちらで降りましょう。神社に立ち寄って、交通安全のお守りを買ってあげますよ。
👨Road safety ? You can get lucky charms for that ?
交通安全？交通安全のお守りが買えるのですか？
👩Yes. Some of them you can stick to your car, others you can hang inside your car. Do you have this sort of thing in the US?
ええ。車に貼れるものもあれば、車内にぶら下げられるものもあります。アメリカにはこういうものはありますか？
👨I suppose so…sometimes Catholics from the Hispanic community have crosses hanging inside their cars.
あると思いますよ・・ヒスパニック系のカトリック教徒が、車内に十字架をぶら下げていることがありますね。
👨But I think the majority of people put decals or small flags for their colleges or favorite sports teams on their cars.
でも、自分の大学や応援しているスポーツチームのステッカーや小旗を車につける人が大半だと思いますよ。
👩That’s interesting… In Japan, hardly anybody would put a symbol of their college on their car for all to see… OK, so you want this one ?

🔑As a leading figure among the business community, I’m sure he will be sorely missed.
経済界のリーダーとして、大変惜しまれるでしょう。
🔑I’ve received the details for the coming memorial events from your President’s Office.
一連の葬儀の詳細は、御社の社長室から伺っています。
※外国の葬儀にお通夜はないため、ここでは「お通夜・告別式」と言う一連の流れを memorial eventsと訳している。
🔑As for the visitation tonight, I’ll accompany Mr. Fujita, our CEO, to attend.
今晩のお通夜には、当社社長の藤田に同行する予定です。
🔑If you’re planning on attending, I suppose we might be able to see you then.
