Business Phrase of the Day
🔑The staff may be embarrassed about the mistake.
その従業員は、自分がミスをして恥ずかしいと思うかもしれません。
カナが準備を整えると、ヘンリーとカナはいよいよ工場に入っていきます。
👨Hey, Kana. So, here’s your helmet, your glasses, and a walkie-talkie.
やあ、カナさん。ヘルメットとメガネ、それにトランシーバーです。
👨The noise inside the factory is pretty loud, so I’m going to talk through this mic, OK?
工場内の騒音はかなり大きいから、このマイクを通して話しますからね。
👩Sure!

👨OK. In we go! So, this is the assembly line for three of our SUVs. We have a moving line at a steady speed.
じゃ、入りましょう！ここはSUVのうち３車種の組み立てラインです。一定の速度で動いているラインがあります。
※in we go ( = we go inの倒置形)
👨Each person is given up to 50 to 60 tasks: putting on bolts, putting wires together, and so on. ボルトを付けたり、ワイヤーを取り付けたりして、1人あたり最大50〜60のタスクが与えられています。
👨If someone makes a mistake, they pull on the cord above them to alert the supervisor.
誰かがミスをすると、その人が上のひもを引っ張って監督に知らせます。
👩What happens if that person doesn’t pull the cord? The staff may be embarrassed about the mistake.
その人がひもを引っ張らなかったらどうなるんですか？その従業員は、自分がミスをして恥ずかしいと思うかもしれませんよね。
👨There’s nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you’re honest about them.
正直に話すなら、間違いを犯すことは悪いことではないですよ。

👨Sure, once a month, maybe. But that’s not a bad thing — it just means there’s room for improvement!

🔑We also owe a lot to this community.

👩This factory is huge. I can’t even see the end of the building.
この工場は大きいですね。建物の端っこが見えないくらい。
👨You’re right, Kana. This is, after all, the biggest factory west of the Mississippi.
その通り、カナさん。何といっても、ここはミシシッピ川の西側で一番大きな工場ですからね。
👨The amount of electricity we use here in a day is roughly the same as the city of Phoenix, Arizona!
１日の消費電力はアリゾナ州フェニックス市とほぼ同じなんですよ！
👩Really? How many cars come off the line in a day?
本当に？１日に何台の車が完成するんですか？
👨About 7 or 8 thousand cars, and we have about 60,000 personnel on site.

👩That’s a lot of people…more than twice the number at Iroha!

👨Well, a lot of them have been with us for several generations.
まあ、何台にもわたってお付き合いしている人たちも多いですからね。
👨We’ve often thought of moving shop, but we also owe a lot to this community, which includes our suppliers, the municipal government, the port authorities, you name it.
移転しようと思ったこともたびたびありますが、サプライヤーや自治体、港湾局など、この地域にはいろいろとお世話になってもいるんです。
