結局は、朝倉電池の生産能力にすべてかかっているのだと思います。
カナは、アメリカ側の部品提供の可能性について、ヘンリーの交渉結果を聞きます。
👨So, Kana, I had a chat with the CEO of our old battery supplier.
そんなわけで、カナさん、付き合いの長い電池サプライヤーのCEOと話をしましたよ。

それで・・・？
👨In short, no. There’s simply not enough time, and they don’t have experience in large-volume production.
ひと言でいうと、ダメです。単純に十分な時間がないし、大量生産の経験もない。
👨I asked if they could increase their output in their current factory in Mexico, but that would mean building a new factory.
メキシコにある現在の工場で増産できないかと聞いてみたのですが、それだと新しい工場を作ることになるとのことです。
👩Right…
そうですかぁ・・・
👨Also, it’s not cost-effective to ship from Mexico all the way to India. Are there any other battery makers in India ?
それに、メキシコからはるばるインドまで輸送するのは費用効率がよくありません。インドにはほかにバッテリーメーカーはないのですか？
👨Local, Japanese, or European ? If they can guarantee the quality, wouldn’t it be easier to ask them to supply us ?
現地、日本、あるいはヨーロッパのメーカーは？品質が保証できるのであれば、そちらに供給をお願いするほうが簡単じゃないですか？
👩There are other battery makers with factories there, but those willing to supply us all have issues with quality control.
現地には工場を持っている電池メーカーがほかにもありますが、供給してもいいと言っているメーカーはどこも品質管理に問題があります。

カナはヘンリーに、朝倉電池と交渉した結果を報告します。
👩So, Henry, I spoke to Asakura.
それで、ヘンリーさん、朝倉電池に話をしてみましたよ。
👨You did ? What did they say ?
話をしたんですか？何と言っていましたか？
👩To my surprise, they say it’s a goal they can meet.
驚いたことに、達成可能な目標と言うのです。
👨Are you serious !? No way !
本当ですか！？まさか！
👩But sadly, there’s a condition. In terms of smooth operation and quality control, they need time.
でも、残念なことに、これには条件があります。スムーズな稼働と品質管理の点から、時間が必要なんです。
👩So while they can’t promise to meet the production goal from the get-go, Asakura says they can do it if we give them a period of two years to adjust.
だから、最初から生産目標を達成することは約束できないが、２年間の調整期間を設けさせてもらえるならできると、朝倉電池は言っています。
👨Two years… so, our production at Chennai will be at the mercy of Asakura’s competence.
２年ですか・・・では、チェンナイでの生産は朝倉電池の力量に左右されることになるわけですね。
👨Hmm… also, would we even be eligible for the incentive if things took two years ?
うーん・・・それに、調整に２年かかっても優遇の対象になるのですか？
👩I don’t know how local authorities would view our situation, but I think it’s worth negotiating with Dr. Patel and his team.

🔑I spoke to Dr. Patel about the subject. It was quite a tough negotiation. In the end, he said they’re willing to make us eligible for preferential tax treatment with reservations.
※複数形のreservationsにwithをつけると「条件付き、留保付き」という意味になる。
標題の件、パテルさんと話をしました。なかなかタフな交渉でした。結論としては、留保付きで優遇税制の適用を認めてくれることになりました。
🔑If we are to be given a two-year grace period while still being given the preferential treatment, the proportion of electric vehicles we produce at the facility will have to be 50% by the end of the second year instead of 40%.
※「猶予期間」という意味
もし2年間の猶予期間をもらう一方で優遇措置を受けようとするなら、2年目が終わるまでに工場での電気自動車の生産比率を40％ではなく50％にしなければなりません。
🔑To be honest, 40% was already an ambitious target for us…Do you think 50% is achievable?
正直なところ、40%というのですら、すでにかなり高い目標だったのですが...50%は達成が可能と思いますか？
