👩I wouldn’t call it trouble, but a human-resources issue has come up. I know it’s late in Dallas, but could you join our online meeting right now? I’ve just sent you a link.
トラブルとまでは言いませんが、人事の問題が出てきたんです。ダラスでは遅い時間ですけど、今すぐオンラインミーティングに参加していただけませんか？つい先ほどリンクを送りましたので。
👨No problem. I’ll hang up the phone now.
問題ありません。今電話を切りますね。

👩Thanks for joining, Henry. We thought it’ll be quicker for the three of us to discuss the issue together than to pass on messages to each other.

👨That makes sense. So, what’s the issue?

👩Let me come straight to the point. We have an issue of a skills shortage on the production lines, i.e. , the performance of the workforce is lower than projected.

👨It’s not rare that the quality of staff comes up as an issue before starting a new production line. Could you elaborate on that a bit more?
新しい生産ラインを立ち上げる前に従業員の質が問題になるのは、珍しいことではないですよ。そのあたりをもう少し詳しく教えていただけますか？
👩Sure. We needed to hire quite a few people who had never worked on a car factory line before. So we did a three-month intensive training before the test run, but the skillsets of some of the workers are still below the minimum standard.
もちろんです。自動車工場のラインで働いたことのない人をかなり採用する必要がありました。そこで、テスト操業の前に3ヶ月間の集中研修を行ったのですが、それでも一部の従業員のスキルは最低基準にまだ達していません。
👨I see. What do you mean by minimum standard?
なるほど。最低基準というのは、どういう意味ですか？
👩According to Krishna, the factory manager, workers are getting tired a lot easier than expected, and this is leading to mistakes with tools and safety concerns. At this rate, the factory will not be able to run at the hours we intended.
工場長のクリシュナによると、従業員が予想以上に早く疲れやすくなっていて、それが道具の使い方のミスや安全面の不安につながっているそうです。このままでは、私たちが考えていた時間帯に工場を稼働させることができなくなりそうです。
👩I mean, it’s understandable. We’re under enormous time constraints to get the production line ready in three months.
無理もないですね。3ヶ月で生産ラインを完成させなければならないという、大変な時間的制約があるのですから。

候補者の履歴書とカバーレターを送ってくれてありがとうございます。
⭐️履歴書を表すCVはラテン語のCurriculum Vitaeの略
✏️Considering the role as an accounting manager, I think that two of the 12 candidates stand out.
経理部長という役割を考えると、12人の候補者のうち2人が際立っていると思います。
✏️Taro has substantial experience in accounting in a German automobile parts company in Bengaluru, so he should be familiar with the job.
タロウはベンガルールのドイツ系自動車部品メーカーで長く経理を担当していたので、仕事には慣れているはずです。
✏️Kiko is a returnee from the UK and has a strong academic background. She worked in an automobile company in France for three years, so she may be suited to a global company like ours.
キコはイギリスからの帰国子女で、学歴もしっかりとしています。フランスの自動車メーカーで3年間働いた経験もあるので、当社のようなグローバル企業には向いているかもしれません。
✏️This is just my impression, so ultimately it’s your call. I hope you’ll find someone that suits the job.
これはあくまでも私の印象なので、最終的にはそちらで決めてください。この仕事に合う人が見つかるといいですね。
⭐️「相手の判断に委ねる」をIt’s your call.と表現している。このcallは「決定」(decision)という意味。
