ヘンリーさん、新工場の完成はだいたいどのくらいとイメージしていますか？ただ単に共通認識を持っておきたいと思って。
👨We want the next generation of SUVs to roll off the assembly lines by autumn 2023.
2023年の秋までには、次世代のSUVを世に送り出したいと考えています。
👩2023 ? Do you think it’s feasible ? We’ll need a year to test run the facilities before we can guarantee quality.
2023年？実現可能だと思いますか？品質を保証できるまでには、設備のテスト使用に1年は必要ですよ。
👨Well, I think we should take some risks if we’re to have any chance of surviving the EV revolution.
まあ、EV革命を生き延びる可能性があるのだとしたら、多少のリスクは負うべきだと思いますけどね。
👩I know, but what if we cause a recall ? Quality is our corporate identity.

👨You’re right. We pursue perfection, but at the same time, I think recalls are a part of the business. Nothing is perfect from the get-go.

アメリカ側の担当者に、これらすべての課題にどう取り組もうとしているのかを聞いてみます。
カナとヘンリーは今後の検討事項をまとめ、次回のミーティングの開始時間を決めているようです。
👨We need to establish our positions regarding models, quantity, battery suppliers, location of the new factory, and time frame.
車種、数量、電池の仕入れ先、新工場の場所、そしてスケジュール感について、スタンスを固める必要がありますね。
👨I’ll ask our people on how they intend to tackle all this. Can you check with yours, too ?
アメリカ側の担当者に、これらすべての課題にどう取り組もうとしているのかを聞いてみます。日本サイドの担当者にも確認してもらえますか？
👩Sure, I will.
もちろんです。
👨So, we’ve talked quite a lot. What time is it in Tokyo now ?
さて、ずいぶんと話し込んでしまいましたね。東京は今、何時ですか？
👩Ah, it’s a quarter to seven – time for breakfast.
7時15分前、朝食の時間です。
👨Well, next time, I could get up early instead. Tokyo is 14 hours ahead of us, so 6 a.m. our time would be…8 p.m. in Tokyo. Is that pushing it ?
そう、次回は私のほうが早起きしてもいいですよ。東京はダラスより１４時間進んでいるから、ダラスの朝6時は…東京では午後8時ですね。それはさすがに遅いですか？
👩Let’s keep it this way. I’m an early bird, so it’s fine.

🔑Three years ago, I could not have imagined that I would be writing a farewell email to my colleagues in English
3年前には、英語で同僚にお別れのメールを書くことになるとは想像もできませんでした。
🔑But here I am, communicating with team members from all around the world.
しかし、私はここで世界各地のチームメンバーとコミュニケーションをとっています。
🔑The merger is making our office here in Tokyo more diverse by the day, and if we continue to embrace this change, I’m sure our future will be full of promise.
合併によって、ここ東京のオフィスは日に日に多様化しています。引き続きこの変化を受け入れていけば、今までとは違う景色が見えてくるはずです。
🔑It has been my privilege to work with you all. Your incredible skills and commitment made it possible for us to survive the difficult period of this pandemic, and I’m truly grateful for that.

👨The pandemic has changed the way we work. Our mobility has been restricted, telecommuting has become widespread, and online meetings have become the norm.
パンデミックで我々の働き方は一変しました。人の移動が制限される中、在宅勤務が普及し、オンライン会議が当たり前の状況になりました。
👨There may be some pushback in the future, but I don’t think we’ll ever go back to old days again.
今後、多少の押し戻しがあるとしても、元の状況には二度と戻らないでしょうね。
👩That’s right. Online meetings will become the default, and face-to-face meetings will become move valuable.
そうですね。オンライン会議が標準となり、対面での会議がもっと貴重なものになるでしょうね。
👩This means that we will need to communicate more closely online and make the most of each encounter in person.
つまり、オンラインでは、これまで以上に相手との距離を縮めるコミュニケーションが、対面ではその機会をできるだけ有効に使うことが必要になってくるでしょう。
